Bangalore Weekend of Photobooks
July 20-21, 2013

A unique event centered around the world of photobooks—talks, films, photobook exhibition and bookshop. Come look at books in a whole new way!
For about a year now, photographer Mahesh Shantaram and book designer Vidya Rao have promoted appreciation for photobooks through their Open House library sessions.
On one or two Sundays a month, members are invited spend a few relaxed hours in the residential library. The Bangalore Weekend of Photobooks will open that collection to a larger audience of photography and book lovers in the city. Come and get immersed in a weekend full of activities centered around the magnificent world of photobooks.

TOUR: The Magnificent World of Photobooks

Impromptu conversations that take place in the reading room.
Mahesh and Vidya will lead small groups through their private collection of contemporary photobooks. Discover the little hidden wonders of these objets d'art. Also featuring the Box of Books.

FILM: How to Make a Book with Steidl

88 mins; starring Gerhard Steidl, Robert Frank, Joel Sternfeld, etc.

An award-winning documentary and an immensely enjoyable film about the jet-setting life of German photobook maker Gerhard Steidl and the mysteries of Steidlville. TALK: Indian Photobooks: Judging by the Cover

Akshay Bhoan, documentary and editorial photographer from New Delhi, regularly reviews photobooks on his art photography blog, Constellation Cafe. He will share insights about Indian photobooks and their place in the world of photobooks.

TALK: The Enigma of Books and Dreams

“India's only anti-fashion, fashion photographer”, as he calls himself, David de Souza has inspired a generation of young minds at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. David has been working on contemporary interpretations of Indian mythology and his current obsessions are with dreams and 3D. He has made 17 photobooks so far, of which seven are monographs.
